The development of the Jirapa area is retarded because of petty squabbles, misunderstanding and the availability of land for much needed development purposes.

These were the thoughts of Jude Korbieh, Chairman of the Jirapa Municipal Youth Association (JMYA) during a town hall meeting held in Jirapa on the 25th of April, 2024 for the purposes of the Municipal Assembly explaining government policy to the public and also to collect feedback from the public.

Mr. Korbieh explained that the youth of Jirapa are not very happy with the pace of development in Jirapa and called on all stakeholders to take a critical look at the factors responsible for this development so that lasting solutions could be found them.

Addressing the gathering, he said he is aware of some projects meant for the municipality have either been relocated to other jurisdictions or have been stopped due to the availability of land or petty misunderstandings, hampering the growth of the area a situation he says the youth are up in arms against.

He elaborated on some of the critical projects that should have been in the municipality which are not as a commercial bank and a municipal hospital among others.

The main topic under discussion during the meeting was the relocation of some traders to pave way for the upgrading of the Jirapa market which was generating some misunderstanding.

After deliberations, there was a general consensus for the project to proceed without hindrance with a committee made up of the Municipal Assembly, traders, traditional rulers and the JMYA been setup to facilitate on the smooth execution of the project.
