• One hundred girls drawn from basic schools in the Jirapa Municipality will benefit from a specialized digital literacy programme in Information Communication Technology (ICT) at the St. Francis of Assisi Girls’ Senior High School, Jirapa.

The programme was launched by Hon. Peter To-ang, Jirapa Municipal Chief Executive on the 23rd of September, 2025 who emphasized that critical importance of digital ICT skills in today’s ever evolving modern world.

Talking to journalists after the launch of the training, Hon. To-ang said “I highlighted the importance of digital literacy and encouraged them to take their training seriously,”

He further urged the trainers to “exercise maximum patience as they guide the girls through the various areas of training” reminding them that a good number of the girls hail from areas that have very little or no idea of what ICT is.

The participants were drawn from both public and private basic schools across the Jirapa Municipality.

The programme is a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.

The core objective of the Girls-in-ICT programme is to bridge the gender gap in technology by empowering young girls with digital literacy and inspiring them to consider future careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The Jirapa Municipal Assembly has pledged its full support to ensure the programme’s successful execution within the municipality.
