The Jirapa Municipal Health Directorate has held its annual performance review for the year 2024 themed “Digital Health Innovation in Service Delivery, The Role of Stakeholders” under the chairmanship of the Jirapa Naa, Naa Dinaa Donglabong Ganaa III in which the municipality performed exceptionally well after scoring 4.1 points out of 5.0 points after being peer reviewed by the Wa Metropolitan Health Management team.

The feat has been attributed to teamwork, hard work, dedication to duty and innovation and stakeholder contribution.

Although the sterling performance, the directorate lacked in some places such as prescription of drugs, record keeping, the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the provision of office, working and residential accommodation such as wards and lecture rooms for the teaching institutions to facilitate better working and learning conditions.

A presentation by the Wa Metropolitan Health Directorate showed that they scored high marks in most of the areas of assessment making them one of the best performing health management teams in the region and in the country.

It is the norm for district health management teams to peer review each other in other to genuinely and independently assess each other to find out the real state of their performance without bias.

In his address, chairman of the occasion, Jirapa Naa, Naa Dinaa Donglabong Ganaa III commended the health staff for their performance and challenged them to set higher standards for themselves, saying development can not be achieved without good health.

He said he still maintained his open door policy and that he will keep on doing everything in his strength to improve the quality of health care delivery in the Jirapa traditional area.

On his part, Municipal Coordinating Director, Majeed Ayariga was full of praise and encouragement to the team and noted some of needs of the health directorate.

He promised to include some projects such as the construction of a ward for the Hain Polyclinic and a classroom block for the Nurses Training College under Phase Two of an ongoing project known as the Social Cohesion (SOCO) project being funded by the European Union and the World Bank.

He was however not amused about the maintenance culture of all occupants of government residential and office accommodation and that there were some retired government workers still holding on to their official residence whilst newly employed workers are left with no option than to look for private accommodation at exorbitant rates.

He was also not happy about the dropout rate in the health training institutions in the municipality and challenged the teaching staff to do something differently to curb the spate.

He said he has personally observed students loitering about during “unholy” hours when they should be studying or relaxing for the next day’s activities, an act he suspects can hinder their academic output.

Florence Ansomwine, Municipal Health Director also took time to commend her staff for a “great” job done and encouraged staff to take up postings at perceived rural areas as she has a package for any staff willing to work in those areas.

The directorate recognized the Jirapa Naa and the Municipal Public Health Nurse, Florence Dramani for their immense contribution to health care services.

They were presented with citations.
