Second lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia was on a camping tour of Han in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region where she addressed a teaming crowd during a rally.
The rally was to canvas for votes for her husband, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund and Parliamentary Candidate for the Jirapa Constituency, Hajia Aisha Salifu in the upcoming 2004 general elections.
Notable among dignitaries who accompanied her were NPP stalwarts from the constituency and at the regional level some of whom were the Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Nicholas Soyiri, NPP Regional Organizer, Hon. Kanton and Jirapa Constituency Chairman of the NPP Chairman Tia.
Scores of the teaming electrified crowd who thronged the rally ground either as supporters of the NPP or to catch a glimpse of the second lady were mostly of Fulbe (Fulani) extraction of which she is a daughter.
There was a significant number of indigenes of the area who were clad in their traditional wear and cheered on when the motorcade of the second lady arrived at the rally ground.
The Parliamentary Candidate Candidate of the NPP for the Jirapa Constituency, Hajia Salifu addressing the gathering in the Hausa language outlined her plans for the constituency which includes human development especially for the youth, using her network to lobby for various development projects among others.

When the first lady took her turn the crowd was ecstatic, she urged them in the Fulbe language, to vote for the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Hajia Salifu for massive development, saying that there is no viable option to a Bawumia led NPP government.
Some gift presentations were bestowed her by the elders of the Fulbe community in the area.
