A dark cloud has once again been cast over the Jirapa Municipality.

After the murder of the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Cosy Safari Resort, a top end safari establishment which shook the Jirapa township and indeed the whole country and beyond another calamity has ravaged the township further throwing the town into a state of shock and sadness.

On Thursday the 15th of February, 2024 a domestic fire razed down some shops and a residential facility completely destroying them alongside goods on sale and personal properties such as motorcycles, electric gadgets and household property.

According to unconfirmed eyewitness accounts the fire started at about 5:00 pm and was brought under control at about 9:00 pm by the combined efforts of the Jirapa and Nadowli fire departments.

The unconfirmed reports further alleged that the inferno was as a result of an LPG gas explosion through cooking.

As of the time of going to press, personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) were at the scene conducting their investigations and we’re not readily available for comment.

Some of the shop owners and residents were seen frantically trying to salvage what little they could amidst hushed comments from onlookers who had come to catch a glimpse of the unfortunate spectacle.

This reporter can confirm that apart from the ravaged residential facility that could have been housing about seven families the shops numbering about four to five which were totally destroyed were dealing in merchandise such as cement and timber, a provision shop and a betting house were also affected.
