The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) has taken shape and is in serious business in the Jirapa Municipality with road maintenance kick-starting in ernest.
It would be recalled that a few weeks ago some road construction equipment (six-wheeler tipper truck, grader, backhoe excavator, steam roller and concrete mixers) were commissioned under the DRIP initiative of the government.
In an address by the Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) Hon. Nicholas Soyiri, he stated emphatically that this is no flash in a pan.
In a telephone interview with the MCE he outlined measures taken to ensure the sustainability of the programme when he paid a working visit on one of the work sites.
He explained that there is a committee which he chairs comprising of the DRIP coordinator, municipal engineer, JA PLANT POOL (suppliers and maintainers of the equipment), ZOOM LION GHANA LIMITED to oversee the administration of the programme and that operators of equipment have been retrained in spite of their qualification and experience to insure quality of work is not compromised.
He asserted that all needed logistics for the programme are in place and that there is an ongoing stage-by-stage programme to serve all deserving community especially those in dire need and in situations of emergency.
