In a historic moment of cultural exchange and unity, the Dagaaba and Frafra tribes are coming together for the first-ever Baazu Festival Celebration. This three-day celebration promises to showcase their culture and traditions of both tribes, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation between communities.

Baazu translates to “Two tribes, one sprite, one love”, reflecting the festival’s core objective on the theme: Harnessing our riches, sustaining peace and development among ethnic communities; the Dagaaba-Frafra experience. This inaugural event marks a new era of cooperation and mutual respect, celebrating the unique customs and practices that make each tribe special.

The three days event is set with numerous activities ranging from cultural performance, art exhibitions , cuisine, workshops, community engagement and more to cover the interest of all individuals. Regardless of their age, gender, language, race and disability.

Day one of the celebration covers activities such as candle light procession, street carnival, cultural display along the principal streets of Jirapa for both tribes. Later in the evening of day one, there will be Da-fra single mingles, socialization, dinner and drink ups. Local artists for both tribes will be passing through with electrifying performances at the Naayiri Park.

In the morning of the second day there will be a keep fit unity walk and later at midday, the official commencement of the festival will take place with cultural displays, volleyball, boxing, tug of peace, slow bicycle race among other games and cultural events. Moving forward there will be a food bazaar,  exhibition of local handworks fabrics, smocks, xylophones, bow and arrows, leather work among other activities that can generate resources to solve community problems towards improvement in the living conditions of the Ghanaian population.

The event further has side attractions like swimming, boxing and a seminar to be hosted by speakers like Ms Aminata Ibrahim, CEO of Empowerment Center of Women and Children, Kumasi. Dr. Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, Founder/President, College for Community and Organizational Development (CCOD). Dr. Alex Bokumah, Lecturer, UBIDS and the chairperson of this sitting Naa Prof. Bruce Kofi Banoeng-Yakubo, all happening at the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel popularly known as Jirapa Dubai. The day is expected to end with thanks giving mass at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jirapa later in the day.

The festival will be climaxed on Sunday 29th December, 2024, by a grand durbar  at the Naayiri Park, Jirapa. The following personalities are expected to be in attendance; Rev. Fr Bennette Tang Bacheyie, government officials including MCEs, Regional ministers and MPs from both regions, The Chief of Jirapa, Naa Dinaa Donglabong III, and the special guest of honour, Right Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin will be present at the event.
