The rainy and cropping seasons are here with us once again with their attendant obligations which we are supposed to be diligent about, are we prepared?
In the previous season we were faced with a number of challenges especially from the farming fraternity, the department of agriculture and indeed the various stakeholders in the agric sector ranging from land cultivation, acquisition of farm inputs, cost of farming right down to Agribusiness.
It will be important to know what interventions were or have been kept in place to ‘arrest’ these challenges from reoccurring or brought to its bare minimum.
If these questions do not have immediate answers, do we take it that it is ‘business as usual’, the typical Ghanaian mantra I loath using.
Answers should and must be made available from the appropriate quarters because we cannot afford to keep on doing the same old things time and again most especially in a critical sector such as agriculture.
The ice must be broken, things should be done in a befitting manner, it is not so complex to have a vibrant agric sector to supply the much needed nutrition and nourishment for a healthy and prosperous population.
A nagging issue that accompanies the farming season which has been mentioned in passing is government sponsored provision and distribution of farm inputs and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
To me, it is quite frightening because the year 2024 promises to be quiet eventful given the current political timetable where no matter where the political pendulum swings towards the presidential seat will be changing hands.
Although the presidency will have a new face the actors (political) remain unchanged because an elephant will be ridden and an umbrella carried although there are other formidable actors covering the political ground.
My question is, are these players prepared to leave politics to politicians and leave farming to farmers? especially that farm inputs will be distributed.
Are we sure that these inputs will get to the deserving recipients at the appropriate time and without some of the hitches we have been witnessing in the years gone-by?
Man must survive, to survive one needs deserving nourishment (food) and to have food on the table means total reliance on the farmer.
These are my candid concerns.
I Paul Dakurah do hereby declare that my bowl of TZ should be there at all times needed by kind courtesy our hard working farmers.
TOUCH NOT OUR FARMERS AND AGRIC SECTOR, SO HELP US GOD.
