Over 450 young ladies across the Jifapa Municipality are beneficiary of a three-day training session where they acquired skills in various income-generating ventures such as soap and detergent making among others, to enable them support a decent livelihood.
The project is under the auspices of Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) WOMEN’S Boot Camp Community-Level Edition in collaboration with the Jirapa Municipal Health Administration with funding from the Mastercard foundation.
The boot camp involved rigorous training sessions by facilitators and the young ladies aged between eighteen and thirty-five years of age received a starter pack, which is in the form of a grant, to enable them to realize their dreams of an emancipated livelihood.
Madam Mercy Tuffour, lead facilitator of the project said KIC WOMEN’S BOOT CAMP supports it’s beneficiaries through capacity building, entrepreneurship and other innovative development programmes snd that this particular boot camp is the second of its kind in the Jirapa Municipality based on the successes and achievements of the previous one.
Explaining the drive for initiating the programme Madam Tuffour said KIC has identified various social ills in the society such as school dropout, premature and unwanted pregnancies, substance abuse, youth unemployment among others as challenges facing the youth, especially the girl-child and these initiatives embarked on is KIC’s efforts in improving the lot of beneficiaries.
She urged the Participants to support their colleagues who did not have the opportunity to participate in the programme to understudy them when their training is over and they are in practice.
Florence Dramani, Jirapa Municipal Public Health Nurse admonished the participants to assess their current social and economic background and make it a motivation for hard work and ultimate success and that supervision and surveillance will be taken seriously.
