The Hain Senior High Technical School located in Hain in the Jirapa Municipality chalked a 100 percent pass rate in the past Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) in spite of the numerous challenges facing it.
This was made known during a sensitization tour of the Municipality by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jirapa Municipality, Hon. Nicholas Soyiri and the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zongo Development Authority, Hajia Aisha Salifu who also doubles as the parliamentary candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Jirapa constituency in the December 2024 election on some completed, ongoing and yet to be commenced Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion (SOCO) projects.
The school is benefiting from a mechanized borehole under the SOCO project to help solve one of the most critical needs of the school, where students go out of campus in search of water for their basic needs.
The Assistant Head Master of the school in charge of academic affairs, Muftau Fasasi, welcomed the guest to the school and commended the assembly for coming to their aid by providing the borehole, which will go a long way to solve one of their most pressing needs facing the school.
Mr. Fasasi explained that the student population is made up of a higher female ratio to male a situation he blames on the lack of residential facilities for male students who have to rent residential accommodation off campus, giving them an additional burden.
He said the current residence of the female students on campus are converted classrooms, which lack residential amenities such as toilets and bathrooms and appealed to the assembly through the MCE and the CEO to facilitate the provision of dormitories for both girls and boys.
He mentioned some of the needs of the school as the lack of basic logistics for administration and tires for the school bus, especially that it has to carry exams candidates to examination centres in the upcoming SSCE examinations.
Addressing the forum the MCE explained what the project was about and its importance especially with regards to security stabilisation in the municipality.
In response to an appeal for connecting the mechanized borehole to some installations on campus, the MCE promised that the assembly will garner resources to extend water supply from the borehole to critical installations which will depend on the yield of the borehole and the proximity of the installations to it.
On her part, Hajia Salifu underscored the importance of education in contemporary times and that education and development go hand in hand.
She said basics such as communicating in the English language can determine the development of a society and that education puts one in the position to compete for positions that would facilitate development.
She says she has observed and noted some of the important needs of the school and promised to take them up.
Hajia Salifu also donated football posts and some FIFA approved footballs to the school.
In attendance were the Municipal Assistant Director of Administration, Planning Officer, Assistant Engineer and the Management Information System (MIS) officer all from the Jirapa Municipal Assembly.
Also present at the forum were teaching and non-teaching staff, students, Chairman and Treasurer of the Parent Teacher Association and traditional and opinion leaders of the area.
