A collaborative effort between the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of Ghana and the Sissala East Municipal Police Command has lead to the apprehension of a company dealing in illegal herbal drug products in the Sissala East Municipality.
The company, Sawab Herbal Company and its manager, Abdul Kudus Razak have been allegedly peddling their products to the unsuspecting public hence their apprehension and arrest to face the full rigors of the law.
The products are alleged to be unregistered with the FDA, questioning its wholesomeness for human consumption and efficacy and also contravenes FDA laws.
The arrest was announced by the FDA through its official Facebook page and has generated responses from concerned followers who are urging the FDA to speed up it’s monitoring efforts in to forestall such occurrences.
There has been general concern from a cross section of the pubic about the manner these herbal remedies and other medicines are blatantly peddled in public places such as bus terminal and on commercial transport without reaction by the relevant authorities.
There was concern about the unhygienic nature of where food on sale is processed and how such foods are handled.
There is call on the relevant authorities such as the FDA, the security services and the Environmental and Hygiene officials to act within their mandate to protect the Ghanaian populace from eminent health hazards.
