A devastating incident has occurred in the Upper West Region of Ghana, where a group of students from Lawra Senior High School drowned in the Dikpe River.

‎The tragic event took place on Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, during the students’ regular jogging routine.

‎According to eyewitnesses, a group of students decided to use a canoe to cross the river, but unfortunately, the canoe capsized, resulting in the loss of several lives.

‎So far, three students are confirmed dead, while three others managed to escape the ordeal unharmed.

‎A frantic search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate the remaining four students who are still missing.

‎The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Police are working together to coordinate the search efforts.

‎The school community is in shock and the incident has sent a wave of grief and sadness throughout the region.

‎Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but an investigation is expected to be launched to determine the cause of the tragedy.

‎The thoughts and prayers of the nation are with the families and loved ones of the victims, as well as the entire Lawra Senior High School community during this difficult time.
