The Municipal Chief Executive for Jirapa, Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri has handed over sites for the construction of a dam and a 3.5KM road at Bookpieriyiri and Mwankuuri-Chachaa respectively.
The two farming communities are beneficiaries of Phase2 of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project funded by the World Bank.
Both contractors for the two projects are expected to complete the projects within two off-farm seasons.
Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri who spoke to Jirapa Fm after handing over the sites to the contractors mentioned that “we want to construct a dam at Bookpieriyiri and a road from Konchuri to Chachaa. We made an appeal to the World Bank and they have given us funds to do the projects.”
Both contractors are expected to take majority of the work force from the beneficiary communities except in areas where the communities do not have the required skills.
The Jirapa MCE noted that the two projects will bring development to the two communities.
“When the projects begin, I think during the dry season when a lot of the youth run to other parts of the country to look for jobs will stop. They will bring development to the communities because when the dam is completed it will facilitate dry season farming and the road network will also reduce the travel time.”
Bakuri Company Limited and A Adnan Company are the contractors for the two projects.
