The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) under its security module has deployed 59 Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) to support the Tumu District Police Command in the Sissala East Municipality improve security in that area.

The new recruits, made 45 men and 14 women, were officially commissioned into the police command in a ceremony held on Friday, September 26, 2025 at the Sisaala East Municipal Police Headquarters in Tumu.

The move is aimed at strengthening community policing and improving law and order across the municipality’s 64 communities.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the municipality, Mr. Adamu Yakubu Bennin, who presided over the event, described the deployment as “historic.”

He urged the recruits to uphold high standards of professionalism and discipline.

“This is the first time in history we have been able to get 59 CPAs to augment the efforts of the police within the municipality,” Mr. Bennin stated.

The Municipal Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Johnson Adusei Poku, welcomed the new personnel strongly cautioning them against the abuse of power and urged them to go about their duties without fear or favor.

“The prison is not only for civilians but for everyone, including the police. I will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found guilty of misconduct,” he warned.

ASP Poku also appealed for essential logistical support, including fuel, uniforms, and motorbikes, to enable the CPAs to perform their duties effectively across the vast municipality.

The representative of the Member of Parliament (MP) of the constituency, Bankuoro Haruna, was appreciative of the increase in number of recruits through the “persistent lobbying by the MP after the Police Commander highlighted the issue of inadequate manpower”.

He reassured the CPAs of the MP’s continued support and encouraged them to be diligent in their work to help reduce crime.

An official of the YEA, Mr. Batong Alhassan Hor reminded the recruits of the agency’s mandate to create jobs and reminded them that disciplined service could lead to permanent opportunities within the security services.
