The Mayor of the Wa Metropolitan Assembly, Alhaji Nurah Issa Danwana, on Tuesday July 23, 2025 commissioned a newly constructed and furnished two-unit kindergarten (KG) block at the Upper West Regional Hospital.
The facility is intended to provide childcare services for hospital staff and parents who have long-term engagements around the hospital to enable them to focus on delivering quality healthcare or whatever ever endeavors they find themselves.
During the ceremony, the hospital administrator, Mr. Francis Luguniah, expressed gratitude to the Wa Metropolitan Assembly for its crucial support in completing the project.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the former hospital director, who initiated and lobbied for the KG block before his transfer.
Mr. Luguniah further appealed to the mayor for additional support, specifically requesting the construction of an oncology unit to provide cancer diagnosis and treatment services for residents of the Upper West Region.
In his address, Hon. Danwana commended all stakeholders involved in the project and emphasized the importance of education in community development.
He highlighted the benefits of having a dedicated school block within the hospital premises for staff members’ children.
The mayor also urged hospital management to maintain the facility properly and ensure it is used for its intended purpose.
Additionally, he revealed that the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon. Dr. Alhaji Rashid Pelpuo, is actively lobbying for the establishment of an MRI diagnostic and cancer treatment center in the Wa Metropolis to address the hospital’s needs.
The new KG block is expected to significantly ease childcare challenges for hospital staff and stakeholders, while enhancing productivity in healthcare delivery.
