The Jirapa Municipality celebrated its annual Farmers Day on Friday, December 5, 2025, in Ul-kpong, recognizing the contributions of local farmers to food security and the local economy. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” urges citizens to embrace local production and consumption to strengthen self-sufficiency and reduce dependence on imports.

The event’s highlight was the awarding of Mr. Sinkare Bayuo, a 30-year-old energetic man, as the municipality’s Overall Best Farmer for 2025. Mr. Sinkare has demonstrated outstanding yield and success in both livestock and crop production. He owns over 700 chickens, 82 guinea fowl, 10 cattle, 22 sheep, 18 goats, 3 turkeys, 15 acres of maize, 10 acres of groundnuts, 2.5 acres of cashew, and numerous farm tools and structures, among others. The prestigious award items include 1 tricycle, 1 knapsack, 1 radio set, 2 cutlasses, 1 watering can, and 2 bars of key soap.

The event also recognized Mr. Anatakang Mathias, a 37-year-old physically challenged man from Zaguo who is married with 5 children, as the 2nd Best Farmer for his contribution to food security in the municipality. His previous award a year ago was the “Best Physically Challenged” Farmer award. His livestock include 48 cattle, 45 sheep, 15 goats, 6 pigs, 2 turkeys, and 136 chickens. For crops-related products, he has 15 acres of sorghum, 6 acres of maize, 3 groundnuts, 2 acres of soybeans, and others. Mr. Anatakang’s award package covers 1 Aloba motorbike, 1 knapsack, 2 cutlasses, 1 watering can, and 2 bars of Key soap.

The 3rd Best Farmer award was presented to Mr. Bamaka Paul. A 53-year-old man from Tuggoh-Baagon, married with 7 children. Mr. Bamaka owns 35 sheep, 25 goats, and 50 chickens. He also cultivates 15 acres of maize, 10 acres of millet, 10 acres of groundnuts, and 8 acres of sorghum. His award items include 1 Lougjia motorbike, 1 knapsack sprayer, 2 cutlasses, 1 watering can, and 2 bars of Key soap.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Peter N. N. To-ang, in his remarks, associated the theme with the government initiative to make the agricultural sector a key driver of the economy. “This year’s theme reflects the government’s broader vision to transform agriculture into a key driver of inclusive growth, climate resilience, and national pride,” He said.

Hon. To-ang assured farmers, citizens, and stakeholders of the municipality’s commitment to strengthen extension services under his administration. “The municipal assembly remains committed to supporting farmers through strengthening extension services, access to quality seeds and fertilizers, capacity-building programs, and continued investment in agricultural investment,” He assured.

He also thanked all awardees, organizers, and sponsors for making this year’s national Farmers Day celebration a memorable event.
