‎The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo Constituency, Hon. Anthony M. Sumah, has been appointed to serve on the Board of the African Parliamentary Network for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development (APNA-STISD).  

‎The appointment was made during the 14th African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF), held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from May 26 to 31, 2025. 

‎The high-profile event, organized under the auspices of the African Union (AU), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and Tanzania’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, brought together legislators, policymakers, and industry leaders to deliberate on Africa’s digital future.  

‎Hon. Sumah is one of seven African lawmakers selected to serve on the board due dedication to his commitment in advancing technology-driven development across the continent. 

‎His nomination highlights Ghana’s growing influence in shaping Africa’s digital transformation agenda.  

‎The APNA-STISD serves as a critical platform for legislators to collaborate on policies that harness Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for accelerated sustainable development. 

‎The core mandate of the board aims at bridging the digital divide, enhance cybersecurity and promote inclusive technological growth.  

‎The Nadowli/Kaleo MP expressed gratitude for the appointment whilst promising to do due diligence during his tenor.

‎Stakeholders have lauded his appointment, describing it as a strategic gain for West Africa. 

‎Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid, AU Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, noted that “The inclusion of dynamic leaders like Hon. Sumah ensures that Africa’s digital policies are shaped by those who understand both grassroot challenges and global opportunities.”

‎Hon. Sumah reaffirmed his commitment to leveraging his position to benefit not only Ghana but the entire continent. 

‎”This is about more than technology, it is about creating opportunities for our youth, securing Africa’s digital future, and ensuring no one is left behind,” he emphasized.
