Some 18 health workers in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region have received presidential honors for their dedicated service delivery in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister presented the certificates on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at a short ceremony held at the Jirapa Municipal Assembly Conference hall on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Jirapa, Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri in his welcome address thanked the awardees for their distinguished contribution in the fight against COVID-19 in the Municipality.
He mentioned that the Assembly would continue to do its best in supporting the health facilities in the Municipality for quality healthcare delivery.
The Director of Health Services for the Upper West Region, Dr Damien Punguyire commended the awardees for their sacrifices.
He says “on behalf of the Director General of Ghana Health Service, we commend you for your self-sacrifices and your families for allowing you the opportunity to serve the people of Ghana. We also want to use the opportunity to express our appreciation to all stakeholders who supported the health service”.
He asked the health workers to use this as a platform to continue to render the needed services for people.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih recalled how traumatizing it was to deal with COVID-19 cases. He also thanked the health workers for their sacrifices in fighting COVID-19.
“I worked closely with some of you and I know how traumatizing it was to deal with COVID-19 cases. I was there when the first COVID-19 case was registered in the region and believe me I had to master the courage to go to that person”.
He noted that Ghana is a nation that believes in the existence of God and “we know that it is through the mercy of God that we have this day”.
The certificates read “In recognition of your leadership, passion, commitment, hard work and sacrifice to save lives and help the nation during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Your fervent and remarkable sacrifices will always be remembered”.
The beneficiaries thanked the government for such recognition. They added that it would boost their morale to do their best in health delivery in the Municipality.
