The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wa, Most Reverend Francis Bomansaa (M. Afr.) celebrated this year’s (2025) Palm Sunday in Jirapa, St. Joseph’s Catholic.
Palm Sunday or the Triumphant Entry is an important event on the Catholic calendar to mark the beginning of the “holy week” which feature a series of events leading to the celebration of Easter, the events marking the crucifixion, death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, celebrated by christians all over the world.
It is a reenactment of Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem where cloths and palm fronds are laid on the path Jesus Christ passed riding a donkey and a crowd singing and dancing whilst chanting “hosanna in the highest” to recognize him as king and savior of the world.
In a deeper sense, it is a period for christians to reflect on the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the divinity of his Kingship of the world.
It is a time to acknowledge humbleness, humility and the fact that Jesus Christ suffered and died and died a humiliating death signifying simplicity and modesty.
Palm Sunday marks the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Where he will finally be crucified. On their day we recall the passion and death of Christ.
Most. Rev. Bomansaa chose to celebrate Palm Sunday in the St. Joseph’s Parish, a feat that has excited both the religious and lay faithful.
As explained by Rev. Jacob Nangpelle of the St. Joseph’s Parish it is an honour to have the Bishop celebrating mass in your parish especially in this busy season of lent. His presence in our parish brings all the faithful all over the parishtogether. It is also an opportunity to participate in his episcopal blessings. The parishioners spiritually life is strengthened.
The occasion begun at the Nayiri Park where the Bishop supported by the Parish Priest of the St. Joseph’s Parish, Rev. Fr. Bennett Bacheyie and other religious blessed the palm fronds wielded by the crowd carried above the headA1.
He then led the scores of worshippers in a procession from the Nayiri Park to the St. Joseph’s Church amidst drumming and dancing in an atmosphere of euphoria, joy, and celebration.
His homily touched on simplicity, modesty love, and care especially for women and children but encouraged boldness just like the women who followed Jesus Christ to the end in spite of the presence of the ruthless Roman soldiers
Most Rev. Richard Bomansaan was appointed Bishop the Wa Diocese on the 22nd May 2024 by the Pope, Pope Francis, and Ordained on the 2nd August, 2024 after the demise of his
